Chichester City Centre Cycling Criterium Race

Chichester City Centre Cycling Criterium Race

I have been a little short of computer time of late with some exceptionally warm and dry weather especially for a long holiday weekend when it normally rains in the UK. Lots of bike rides and a visit on Saturday to the first staging of City Centre Cycle Racing in the nearby City of Chichester. Needless to say I took a very large number of photos. I decided to go with this picture for some special editing as the lead cyclist is a friend on Facebook and races with a local club. The race was the middle of 3 held during the evening and was for Men’s 3rd and 4th category.

Editing was first in RAW. Then on a duplicate layer I used Nik Define for noise reduction and Topaz Clarity for more detail. Then Topaz Lens Effects for a zoom effect selectively removed by applying on a duplicate layer with a layer mask. In the days of Slides I used to get a similar effect by zooming the camera lens during the exposure. Doing it on the computer gains much more control on where the zoom effect is and enables an otherwise distracting background to be substantially removed while leaving enough to see the context.
