Church of Yaiza, Lanzarote - This is the 17th century church of Nuestro Señora de los Remedios situated in the centre of the southern town of Yaiza. There are very small windows and low light levels. Most of the light comes through the open doorway. The Church is open to visitors most of the day.


In the early 18th century volcanic eruptions destroyed many of the surrounding villages but Yaiza was spared as lava flows heading down the mountain turned in two directions towards the villages of Uga and Playa Blanca leaving Yaiza relatively untouched by the disaster.
