Royal Docks Night Magic

Royal Docks Night Magic

Royal Docks is located in the London Docklands in East London. The area is named after three docks – the Royal Albert Dock, the Royal Victoria Dock and the King George V Dock. The three docks collectively formed the largest enclosed docks in the world, with a water area of nearly 250 acres. The Docks were the most eastern in the old docklands area and they survived longer than any of the other upstream docks, finally closing to commercial traffic only in 1981.Tilbury Container Port in the Thames Estuary took over Port traffic. The Royal Docks are now being redeveloped and are best known for being one Terminal of the Emirates Air Line cable car across the Thames and as the location of the Excel Centre.

The Ship in the right of the image in Sunborn the only Super yacht Hotel in the UK. It is permanently moored. In the far distance just before the Skyscrapers of Canary Wharf there are short pink light trails from Cable Cars of the Emirates Air Line. Either side of the Dock the cranes of the old dock have been retained. The shot is taken on the path leading to the Royal Victoria Dock elevated footway Bridge out of the picture to the left. The image is not a panorama, just a cropped single image to remove less interesting sky. This was my first visit to the Royal Docks.

The picture was taken on a tripod with a Sony A700 with a Sigma 10-20 mm lens at 10mm. 3 raw images 2EV spacing processed with Photomatix Fusion Real Estate for a natural look I took 3 shots for HDR. I copied in the plus 2 EV image as a new layer, removed it with a black layer mask and then brought it back in with a white brush on the mask to bring detail back in the shadows. Further editing with Topaz Clarity and DeNoise. Some tidy up with the heal and clone tools.
