Spiral at Two Temple Place London

Spiral at Two Temple Place London

Time for another Spiral Staircase. Although troubled by high noise levels due to the very low light levels I thought it worth showing this one. The building itself is only open to the Public once a year for special exhibitions. This staircase is not easy to find and is basically for the downstairs area of the Upstairs Downstairs of the house. It is in sharp contrast to the opulence of the main part of the house. Also although there were no signs I was told after taking my pictures that I shouldn’t have been there, oops!
Two Temple Place is a late Victorian mansion built by William Waldorf Astor on Embankment. The house was designed for use primarily as Astor’s estate office by one of the foremost neo-Gothic architects of the late nineteenth-century, John Loughborough Pearson. Astor had emigrated to England in 1891 as arguably, the richest man in the world and no expense was spared when work began on Two Temple Place in 1892. It has been described as the most lavish Victorian private house in London.

Light levels were very low and I could only just get a shutter speed of 1/8 second at 6400 ISO. I used a Sony A700 with a Sigma 10-20mm wide angle lens at 10 mm. Rather than HDR I edited in RAW

I edited a lot with Topaz using Topaz Denoise to remove a fair amount of noise and then brought up detail with Topaz Clarity. Brightness adjustment with a layer mask to reduce highlights. More punch with a clarity effect using unsharp mask 63 amount and 63 radius
