Buses Big Ben to Trafalgar

Buses Big Ben to Trafalgar

Bang up to date now with this image from yesterday. This viewpoint is from a crossing on the edge of Trafalgar Square looking down Whitehall to Big Ben. This is a single image. It can be difficult to get a good view on both sides of the road with moving vehicles. I was there for 20 minutes to get this one which was one of those eureka shots.

The pictures were taken with a Sony A700 with a Sigma 10-20 wide angle zoom at 20mm. Taken with a tripod. The colours are original, I did not do any editing to the colours. I processed the image in RAW for recovery of highlights and clarity. It was essentially a manual false HDR. I processed the image in RAW a second time at minus 2 EV and pasted it in to the original at 30% opacity and with a layer mask to bring down highlights in some areas. The image was then processed in RAW a third time at minus 4EV and a layer mask used to apply the change only to the clock face of Big Ben.

A crop and the heal and clone brush were used to remove 2 areas of distracting highlights from the edges of the picture.
