Spiral Stairs Down To The Eye

Spiral Stairs Down To The Eye

Another shot from the Newport Street Galleries taken in early February, this time looking down. This is one of the three brand new spiral staircases at the Gallery which opened in October 2015. Located in Vauxhall, south London, Newport Street Gallery presents exhibitions of work from Damien Hirst’s art collection. Admission to the gallery is free and Photography is allowed but no flash. The 3 spiral staircase at first glance look the same but there are notable variations in their shapes and design. This shot is a view of the spiral furthest from the entrance. The building and stairs were designed by London Architects Caruso St John. The Gallery is open every day except Monday and the entrance is situated just before the junction with Old Paradise Street,

The picture was taken handheld with a Sony A700 with a Sigma 10-20 wide angle zoom at 10 mm. I took 3 shots for HDR. 3 raw images 2EV spacing processed with Photomatix Fusion Real Estate setting for a natural look. However I decided that for most of the image the Plus 2 EV image processed in RAW looked better. I pasted the HDR into this image with a layer mask used to apply it to the brighter area in the bottom right to bring in a little more detail and also using a partial opacity for the layer. Further adjustments were made in Photoshop adjustment layers using contrast, Vibrance, levels and curves. I added more punch by using Unsharp mask with settings of 51 amount and 51 Radius.
