Blackwall Basin Cityscape

Blackwall Basin Cityscape

I discovered this spot by accident early in February this year while looking for something else. The access is not very obvious but there is a narrow public path on the east side of the basin looking towards the Canary Wharf towers. This was the highlight of the Photowalk I organised for Bognor Regis Camera Club on Saturday 26th November with 18 taking part. We got there before sunset which as luck had it was superb, full of pinks and reds. This one is a later shot with the colours having faded a lot but I preferred it because it enables more of a focus on the City. Luckily very few people were using the path because we were lined up along the narrow path taking up a lot of the space with our tripods

I choose the composition to include the bridge on the left leading the eye in to the main part of the image. The time was just right for the best part of the Blue Hour. The picture was taken on a Tripod with a Sony A700 with a Sigma 10-20mm lens at 12 mm. 3 raw images 2EV spacing processed with Photomatix Fusion Real Estate setting for a natural look. A little Noise was removed with Topaz DeNoise. Although noise builds up in night shots and by using HDR there was very little thanks to an ISO setting of 100. Topaz Clarity was used for more detail and punch. I did a lot of further adjustments to get it just right. There were a bunch of distracting cranes in the space middle left between the apartments and the towers. These and their reflections were removed with the Heal and clone brushes. There was also a very bright light on the left edge of the picture which I removed with heal and clone brushes and a brightness adjustment. The verticals of the Towers were corrected with the Lens Correction tool, Custom, Vertical Perspective
