Brighton i360 The Saucer is Landing

Brighton i360 The Saucer is Landing

Friday evening I took a trip on the Brighton i360 on the second day of its opening. BA who run it call the trips up the Tower flights and appropriately enough take off was delayed by 30 minutes. Teething problems possibly as it was a delay which had built up over the day. As I had booked for an 8.30 takeoff and it took off at 9.00 I missed out on the best of the sunset but there were still some good sky colours. I booked only on Wednesday with no problems possibly because before the opening not many people had heard of it. No tripods or even monopods allowed. Daytime trips last 20 minutes and evenings 30 minutes. It goes straight up, stays at the top and then comes down. No rotating. Capacity is 200 with plenty of room to move around and a bar which seemed to have good custom. Prices range from £11.25 to £15.

This shot was taken after going through security and next to the Tower though similar shots can be taken from the seafront. The shine on the underside is quite spectacular even without the additional burnishing I gave it in the processing

The picture was taken handheld with a Sony A700 with a Sigma 28-200 zoom at 28mm I edited first in RAW and then Topaz Clarity. More punch with a clarity effect using unsharp mask 63 amount and 63 radius
